@The Buff OP , I know you've been interested in surgery. When was the last time you shadowed a surgeon? Maybe doing so might reinvigorate your interest in the field!
You know there are a handful of ER docs who regularly ride with Life Flight? That seems pretty exciting.
But, I think that the military and police work can be deceptive in terms of how exciting we perceive them to be. We think of war and crime and shootouts and all this stuff, but I'm confident (and I've heard this from both cops and military men and women) that most of the work is just that; work. It's a job consisting of all the job-y stuff everyone else has to do, with the wiser among those in the vocation often preferring things not get too interesting, because that's when you get shot at or taken from your family to fight a war.
One service job that offers consistent bursts of excitement -- off the top of my head -- is firefighting. I've known several people who went into that career just for the excitement it offers.
