Yea, but sometimes there is some weird, dark humor. It's about timing, appropriateness--who you are around--and hopefully not being horribly disrespectful to patients. Pick on me, not my patients--even if someone them are, well...
But sometimes there is so much stress and people get so tired--and if it's late at night or wee hours, people can get goofy. So long as everyone is safe, people are focused and on top of things. Some people can do this, while others can't, so they seem like the bummers to work with, b/c they can't chew gum, blow joke bubbles and stay focused. And it depends on what is going on too.
And then there are days/nights when even the funniest of people or the most jovial, good-humored people are beat and are just killing themselves to stay in focused, super-serious mode. So, on those days, if they don't like being messed with, for God's sake. Leave then alone except to help them as they want. Tomorrow may be a better day for them. There's a time and place for everything. But yea. Working with good, fun people, my God, that can make all the difference in the world.
Then there are people that are just idiotic jerks. This one RN was poking fun at a doc b/c she had some asymmetry of a a part of her body. He not only poked fun at her, but he went right up to her to ask her about it. I swear this guy needs to lay off the stuff that is legal in some states now. Some think his mouth and behavior is cute. I think he is behaving like a jerk @%% and needs to shut up and help out more. Maybe if he really gave a damn about the patients, I'd be more apt to tolerate some of his crap.
