I am a 3rd time applicant who is currently in this cycle. I submitted secondaries to 17 MD and 4 DO schools, but have not heard much from schools yet except for 1 hold and 1 rejection on the MD side and 1 II on the DO side. For MD schools, I was complete early July/mid August and for DO schools I've been complete in September. I'm getting somewhat worried even though there are 6 months left in this cycle.
Here are my stats/EC's
3.9 cGPA/3.9 sGPA
MCAT : 32 - PS 12/V 8/ BS 12 - 4th try My other 3 scores were 26-29 with sciences >= 10 and verbal 6-7
(worked diligently to improve verbal, but still ended up on the lower end based on practice exams)
My ECs are summarized below
~3 years/300 hours hospital volunteering
~70 hours shadowing with various physicians
~3 years research in biochemistry laboratory (had a few posters and presentations, wrote an honors thesis, no publications)
~400 hours - summer biology REU program
~4 years chess club (was vice president for 1 year)
75 hours - as a biochemistry TA
15 hours - volunteer academic tutor for economically disadvantaged high school students
full time research tech for a molecular biology lab
part time freelance tutoring
I also have 3 LORs, all from science professors I have spent substantial time doing meaningful work/ECs. I assume all of them to be strong.
