Tips on preparing for a PhD interview

samedi 17 octobre 2015

Hi everyone,

I responded to a call for "expressions of interest" for a PhD in psycho-oncology/implementation science. I filled out the application form, which, amongst other things, asked why I was interested in pursuing a PhD in implementation science, and what ideas I had for the research (i.e., research questions).

Anyway, I found out yesterday that I have an interview on Monday! What do you think I can expect from the interview? I think psychology is a little different in Australia (where I live) to the US. A PhD is straight research - you do not become a psychologist if you complete a straight PhD. To become a psychologist, you have to combine the PhD with a Masters or do a DPsych.

I have been to Masters and DPsych interviews before, but am wondering if an interview for a specific research project for a PhD will be different. What do you think?

If I'm accepted, I'm also thinking of asking if I can combine the PhD with the Clinical Masters they offer (they offer a combined program). I have applied to a few Masters programs, but not the one that corresponds to this PhD because I figured I couldn't apply for everything, and this particular Masters course is meant to be exceptionally competitive. What do you think?

Many thanks in advance!
