Rise of female professionals and the new perspectives they bring to our culture is the culprit, I think.

If women can provide for themselves, then the employment status of potential romantic partners is less important. So looks, personality, and maybe family-orientedness are factors that are largely considered over employment success (or potential employment success). Male homemakers is a normal thing nowadays as a result.

Doctors may not have the best looks, personality, or family-orientedness...
