So I've been scribing for a few months at a local ER and generally find the job itself interesting...seeing the broad spectrum of conditions and personalities has been eye opening and fascinating. However, while I enjoy the job, I honestly do not like the vibe of the ER and many of the staff (docs and nurses). I'm not sure if it's just my ER, but I find the attitudes of at least half of the staff to be overwhelmingly negative towards the patients and their jobs in general. At least half the docs I work with are obviously only in it for the money (spend as little time as possible with the patients, complain endlessly about their salaries and only seem happy when talking about going on expensive vacations or buying a new home or luxury car)...many of them seem to derive pleasure from saying cruel things about a lot of the patients as soon as they leave the room (words like liar, troll, crackhead, bi%ch, etc. are not uncommon to hear). I don't know...is this just how a lot of docs and nurses are? Some of the folks I work with are great...but overall it just seems like at least half of the staff really don't like their jobs and despise most of the patients. They do, however, like the paycheck. I'm not sure if this is something a lot of the other scribes have experienced...I'd be interested to hear how others feel about the providers and nurses they work with.
