I am currently about to finish my PharmCAS application and have already requested my transcripts to be sent a couple days ago. I will be taking the PCAT at the end of this month. My two questions are a) am I applying too late and b) what chances do I have (I legitimately have grown to enjoy pharmacy so please no "if you have a pulse you will get in, or reevaluate your career choices).
I am an odd case though. I made poor academic choices in my 4 undergrad years and ended up with a GPA of 2.1 with over 120+ credits. It was a sum of giving zero effort in class and lack of maturity.
After some serious soul searching and accepting that I put myself in this situation, I apply to a major university in Atlanta and worked on rehabilitating my academic image. It took a while to overcome the poor study habits I had accumulated but graduated with my BS in Neuroscience in 4 semesters of 20+ hours. I pleaded my situation to the Dean of Admissions for the Masters program at my university at was accepted where I currently am about to finish my Biology MS with a current GPA of 3.55 and should end this December with a 3.6+. Unforunately I had so many credits of poor academic work that my cumulative is still a 2.4 when I finish my MS.
I have worked as a Pharm tech at CVS Pharmacy for about two years now and really built my passion for it there. I do neuroscience research at the same time along with teaching introductory biology lab and am a lab assistant as well. I will have two PharmD letters of recommendations and two more from professors whose upper level biology classes I have taken.
With my app submitted this Sunday (10/11) and PCAT taken at the end of Oct, have I entered the app cycle too late with my poor stats? Would a 80th percentile or higher PCAT help push me over the top?
Any suggestions/guidance would help. Thanks. I will be contacting some Pharmacy schools next week, but wanted to get some opinions on here as well.
