I got my MCAT score back today and was a bit disappointed (509: 128/126/127/128) as it was below what I was shooting for and what I was predicted to get. I'm wondering if I should consider re-taking the MCAT (especially considering I'm an ORM and my home state is WA...not a great combo) or just apply next cycle as planned?
If I should just suck it up and apply, do you guys have any feedback on my school list?
RACE: Asian American (FML)
GENDER: Male
MAJOR: Neuro
UNDERGRAD: Top 5 LAC
STATE: WA
YEAR: 2015 grad doing gap year
GPA: 3.76c/3.74s
MCAT: 509 (128/126/127/128) - the new 31? maybe?
CLINICAL VOLUNTEERING: 150 hours in 3 different hospitals over several years. Pretty spread out but lots of patient interactions (most significant). I'm thinking of continuing that up again right now.
SHADOWING: ~40-45 hours across 4 specialties
RESEARCH:
-NIH IRTA program during gap year. With a great cancer lab and working really hard in a 9-5 full time job. They say I should be on a pub by this time next year.
-Honors Thesis in Neuro in undergrad. Publication in the works. Presentation at national conference. 1.5 years with the lab.
-Baylor College of Medicine SMART (kind of like a SURF) program for one summer.
-Work-study as a research assistant (1 academic year) in a plant phys lab
NON-CLINICAL VOLUNTEERING: 350 hours (3 academic years) as a volunteer SAT coach/college coach for disadvantaged, URM high school students. Taught classes of 5-12 once a week (most significant)
LEADERSHIP:
-2 years as a Freshman RA (most significant - huge in my character development)
-2 years co-founder/co-President of a science outreach/community service club on campus
-1 year as a freshman orientation trip leader/academic mentor (quit because it conflicted with being an RA)
OTHER EC'S:
-4 years in orchestra, 3 as a section leader (part of 10+ years of classical musical playing)
-2 different jobs through work study at school
AWARDS: (if they matter)
