Medical Assistance/Welfare in medical school.

mercredi 4 novembre 2015

Hi all, I hope you financial gurus can help me out on this situation.

While attempting to browse the healthcare.gov to get to the marketplace to compare health insurance plans. I was redirected to a site that said my state does not provide healthcare options for me and that I can qualify instead for Medicaid.

So the website sends my info to my state to determine my eligibility.

I thought nothing if this at the time, but now 3 weeks later, I was sent a package by the state saying I qualify for medical assistance based on my income, which is solely from bank interest on my savings.

So I qualify for welfare (healthcare coverage) apparently while I'm enrolled in school because I'm not generating income.

What is the catch here? I feel most student not just me would qualify, then why do we have to pay the full private health insurance rate that schools demand?

I have a feeling that something isn't right, this is too easy to qualify for Medicaid.

Thanks for helping a confused med student.
