I got into contact with a medical school interviewer and he said that most schools take state residency into account. HOWEVER, this happens before the interview stage. So at the interview the out of state applicants, on average, are stronger than the in state applicants, on average. And if you are out of state and you get an interview, then you actually have a HIGHER chance because you had to go through a tougher screening and now everything is based on merit.
