On academic medicine night float for the month. My poor newly minted second year is getting creamed on her no doc admitting night and I think is a little freaked out. She is so good... But is now leaping to diagnoses rather than keeping an open mind and ordering appropriate tests to narrow the differential focus. Fortunately she is easily talked through the process.

I remember when I was a second year, nervous about admitting myself, handling all the night stuff alone as the 'senior resident'. It was a great learning experience. Now I'm the third year having the second years run their admits by me, calling with questions about floor calls, etc, and it is again good to see how much I have learned, how the thought process changes and evolves.

Tomorrow I need to do my online modules. My goal is to get them all done for the year this month so I don't have to worry about them anymore.

I don't know a lot of conformation-only breeders, but I do know a lot of people who work and breed dogs (who maybe do conformation on the side just to get the titles on their dogs). The reason a well-bred puppy from a responsible breeder may (and I mean MAY, some of them are around the same price as the sad genetic wastelands you find at Petland or whatnot) cost more is that these people put a whole lot more into their dogs too. Genetic testing, training, show/trial entering fees, travel to all of those...it's not cheap. Most really good breeders aren't really making $$$$ on their puppies at all despite the prices. And usually there's a variable price per puppy anyhow, dependent on whether the animal is a good work/show/breeding prospect or will be sold as a pet.

And yes, bulldogs are screwed up as they currently are bred.

Midwestern Class of 2020 applicants

Yes, I had it on Tuesday. It went really well, I think. I believe the interview itself was roughly around 30 minutes. They really conduct it in such a conversational manner that I felt like we were just talking and getting to know each other. You are assigned two interviewers and called back individually. When I first walked in, I was nervous of course. But within five minutes, I felt right at home. It's not like an interrogation at all. They don't ask you any impossible questions. I feel they really are just trying to get to know each student. Just relax and tell them about yourself. You'll do fine!

I am a current first year at LECOM-SH. I'm going to be busy with finals in the next few weeks and then busy again for a few weeks after Memorial Day, but I'll check in every once in a while and try to answer questions.

In the past, LECOM's secondary applications haven't required an essay.

Its provisional accreditation is the highest level of accreditation it can receive until it graduates its first class. I think Middletown is an attractive campus because it is very closely affiliated with Orange Medical Center and, as a result, most students do not move at all for four years. On the other hand, I've heard a mix of really bad things about Harlem's rotations (e.g. moving all over New Jersey to a new site every rotation, etc.)

It seems like this school is REALLY about primary care and service of the underprivileged.

However, the secondary asks you to rank your reasons for an interest in medicine, whether you are interested in primary care, and where you would like to work (small town, larger metropolitan area, etc)

To be honest, the whole thing seems like a trap LOL, cuz it seems like there is an obvious "right" answer to each question.

Has anyone had success getting admitted after indicating an interest in specialty practice in an academic setting?

On the Western Portal, it still doesn't say anything in terms of being received for my DAT scores and "App Rec'd frm Service". Is this normal - aka I don't have to send my DAT scores to them right?? My application was mailed out last week, so it may be a little early, but I was wondering how often they update this stuff and what not. Also, I totes forgot to send in my pre-req worksheet a while back and just now sent it in, so that could probably delay things... My bad.

Hey everyone, I'm also applying to Howard! I'm also a non-URM minority (if that matters??) and I've got a low GPA/decent MCAT and a whole lot of heart so I'm hoping they see that :)

Aside from staying in NY (it's home, and its NY lol), I would gladly relocate to DC for Howard (I've spent some time in DC and liked it).

Best of luck everyone! Can't wait till secondaries are out.
